Customizing Your Profile

Your profile is your identity on Tavrn. It’s how people recognize you, learn about you, and decide whether to click that “Add Friend” button. Here’s how to make it shine.

Getting to Profile Settings

Go to Settings → Profile to access all your profile customization options. Changes save automatically (or with a save button, depending on the field).

The Basics

Display Name

Your display name is what shows next to your messages and on your profile card. Unlike your username, there’s no uniqueness requirement, two people can have the same display name. Use your display name for:
  • Your actual name or nickname
  • A fun title or description: Margaux | coffee first
  • Seasonal or rotating labels
  • Your streaming alias or creator name

Username

Your @username, the unique handle used for mentions and search. Lower effort to set, higher impact to maintain. Choose it thoughtfully.

Bio

The “about me” section. Keep it authentic and brief. Some ideas:
  • Your interests: “Into tabletop RPGs, ambient music, and very strong tea ☕”
  • Your vibe: “here for the memes and the occasional intellectual conversation”
  • Your role in a community: “mod @ cozy lounge | she/her”

Avatar

Your profile picture. Shows up everywhere, next to messages, in friend lists, on your profile card. Best practices:
  • Square images crop best to circles
  • Keep it recognizable at small sizes (40px thumbnails)
  • Use JPEG, PNG, or WebP for standard avatars
  • Cocoa members can use animated GIFs, learn about Cocoa →

The colored strip behind your avatar on your profile card. Set it to any valid hex color.
#ff6a33 → Tavrn orange 🔥
#6a0dad → Deep purple 💜
#1a1a2e → Dark navy 🌙
#2d6a4f → Forest green 🌿
Your banner color + avatar combination creates your visual identity on Tavrn. Think of it like a mini brand. Consistent, recognizable, and expressive.

Pronouns

A dedicated pronoun field that displays prominently on your profile. Set it to whatever reflects you:
  • she/her
  • he/him
  • they/them
  • any/all
  • he/they, she/they
  • Literally anything you want
Leave it blank if you prefer not to share.

Location

An optional field to show where you’re from or where you are. This is free-form text, NYC, London, Somewhere in the Pacific Northwest 🌲, whatever feels right.
Location is display-only, Tavrn doesn’t use it for geolocation or anything technical. It’s just another way to add context to who you are.

Steam Connection

You can connect your Steam account to your Tavrn profile. When connected, your Steam username is displayed on your profile card with a link to your Steam profile page. To connect Steam: Settings → Connections → Steam → Connect Your Steam profile link is visible to others based on your privacy settings.

Custom Status

A short message that shows next to your status indicator. Tell people what you’re up to right now:
🎮 Playing Elden Ring
🎵 Listening to lofi and procrastinating
🛠️ Building something cool
😴 Sleeping (pls don't dm)
Custom status supports emoji + text. Cocoa members get rich custom status with more options. Learn more about Custom Status →

Every Tavrn user has a profile URL based on their username, tavrn.app/profile/yourusername. Share this link anywhere to let people find you and add you as a friend. Learn more about your profile URL →

Putting It All Together: Profile Tips

Be consistent

Use the same avatar and username across platforms if possible, makes you recognizable wherever people might find you.

Update regularly

Your custom status and bio can change with the seasons, your mood, or your current projects. Keep it fresh.

Show personality

Dry, factual bios are fine. But a little humor or personality goes a long way in community spaces.

Pronouns matter

Adding your pronouns helps others address you correctly and creates a more inclusive environment for everyone.
