Setting Up Your Profile

Your Tavrn profile is how the rest of the community gets to know you. It doesn’t have to be a masterpiece on day one, but taking a few minutes to fill it out makes a huge difference in how people connect with you.

The Profile Setup Flow

When you first sign up, Tavrn walks you through a quick profile setup. You can also update any of this anytime through Settings → Profile.

What You Can Set

🖼️ Avatar

Upload a photo or image that represents you. Square images work best. Cocoa members can use animated GIFs.

🏷️ Display Name

This is the name shown in chats and on your profile, it’s separate from your username and can be anything.

✍️ Bio

A short blurb about yourself. What are you into? What kind of vibes do you bring? Keep it brief but real.

🎨 Banner Color

Pick a hex color for your profile banner, the colored strip at the top of your profile card.

📍 Location

Optional. Share your city or region if you want people to know where you’re from.

🔗 Social Links

Link out to your other profiles, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, personal site, whatever you want.

Pronouns

Tavrn has a dedicated pronouns field on every profile. It’s right there, prominent, because we believe everyone deserves to be addressed correctly without having to explain themselves. You can set your pronouns to anything, she/her, he/him, they/them, any/all, or something totally custom. It’ll be displayed publicly on your profile.
Pronouns are optional. Fill them in if you’d like people to know, leave it blank if you prefer.

Your Username vs. Your Display Name

A lot of people get confused about this, here’s how it works:
UsernameDisplay Name
What it doesUnique identifier for your accountThe name shown in chats
Can be changedYes (with care)Freely, anytime
Used for @mentions✅ Yes❌ No
Must be unique✅ Yes❌ No
Example@coffee_witchMargaux ☕
When someone @mentions you, they use your username. Your display name is just what shows up in conversation, it’s more for personality than identity.

Uploading an Avatar

Your avatar shows up everywhere, DMs, room chats, your profile, friend lists. Make it something that feels like you.
1

Go to Settings → Profile

Open the settings menu and navigate to your profile page.
2

Click your current avatar

This opens the file picker. Select an image from your device.
3

Confirm and save

Your avatar will upload and update instantly. No page refresh needed.
Supported formats: JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF
Maximum file size: 25MB

Choosing Your Banner Color

The banner is that colored strip at the top of your profile card. It’s a small detail, but it makes your profile feel distinctly yours. To change it:
  1. Go to Settings → Profile
  2. Find the Banner Color field
  3. Enter a valid hex code (like #ff6a33 for Tavrn’s signature orange)
  4. Save your changes
Don’t know your hex codes off the top of your head? Tools like coolors.co or htmlcolorcodes.com make it easy to find the perfect color.

You can link your other profiles in your Tavrn bio. These show up as clickable icons on your profile card. Currently supported platforms include:
  • Twitter / X
  • Instagram
  • YouTube
  • Twitch
  • GitHub
  • Personal website
To add them, go to Settings → Profile → Social Links and paste in your URLs.

Your Profile Visibility

By default, your profile is visible to everyone on Tavrn. But you can lock it down if you prefer:
  • Public, Anyone can see your profile
  • Friends only, Only people on your friends list can see full profile details
  • Private, Profile details are hidden from everyone
This is configured in Settings → Privacy & Safety. See Profile Visibility for a full breakdown.

Profile Tips & Ideas

Think of your bio as a tiny introduction. Some things that work well: your main interests or hobbies, something funny or quirky about yourself, what kinds of communities or rooms you’re in. You don’t need to write an essay, a couple of lines is perfect.
Something recognizable even at small sizes works best. A clear face photo, a distinctive illustration, a logo, or even just a bold icon works great. Avoid images that are too busy or complex, they’ll just look like noise at 40px.
Absolutely! Your display name, avatar, bio, and banner are all freely changeable whenever you want. Switch it up for different vibes, seasons, or just because you feel like it.
No. Profile updates are silent, nobody gets pinged when you change your avatar or bio.
