Finding & Joining Rooms

Rooms are where Tavrn really comes alive. They’re community spaces organized around shared interests, and finding the right ones makes all the difference.

What’s a Room, Exactly?

A room is a dedicated space for a community. Inside, you’ll find:
  • Text channels, For ongoing conversations organized by topic
  • Voice channels, For hanging out and talking in real time
  • Members, Other people in the community
  • Roles, Different permission levels (more on that in Roles & Permissions)
Think of it like a clubhouse that’s always open.

Three Ways to Join a Room

AHA Verified Rooms

The AHA program is Tavrn’s verification system for quality communities. AHA Verified rooms have been reviewed and meet certain standards for activity, organization, and community health. Look for the ✅ AHA badge when browsing, it’s a good signal that a room is established and well-run.
Running a room and want to apply for AHA verification? Check out AHA Verified Rooms.

After You Join

Once you’re in a room, a few things happen:
  1. The room icon appears in your left sidebar
  2. You’ll be given the Member role by default
  3. You can start chatting in text channels right away
  4. Voice channels are available to hop into
  5. The room’s members list is visible on the right
Most rooms have a #rules or #welcome channel at the top. Read it before diving in, it’ll tell you what the community is about and any expectations they have.

Leaving a Room

Changed your mind or just cleaning up your room list? You can leave anytime.
  1. Right-click the room icon in your sidebar (or long-press on mobile)
  2. Select Leave Room
  3. Confirm
If you’re the owner of a room, you can’t just leave, you’d need to transfer ownership first, or delete the room entirely.

How Many Rooms Can I Join?

There’s no hard limit on the number of rooms you can join. Join as many or as few as you want, your room list is yours to manage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Room admins and moderators can kick or ban members. If you’re banned, you won’t be able to rejoin via the same invite link.
Bans are managed at the room level by that room’s admins. Reach out to a room admin directly (if possible) to appeal. Tavrn support can’t intervene in individual room moderation decisions.
If a room is private, it won’t show up in discovery and can only be accessed via invite. Ask the room owner for an invite link if you know it exists.
