Inviting Members

Getting people into your room starts with a good invite link. Here’s how to create, share, and manage invites.
1

Open Room Settings

Click your room name at the top of the channel list to open the room dropdown, then go to Settings.
2

Navigate to Invites

In the settings panel, find the Invites section.
3

Create a new invite

Click Create Invite. You can customize:
  • Expiration, How long the link is valid (1 hour, 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, or never)
  • Max uses, How many people can use it (unlimited or a specific number)
  • Custom code, Set a custom path for your invite URL (e.g., tavrn.app/invite/mycoolserver)
4

Copy and share

Copy the link and share it wherever you want, message, social media, email, etc.

Custom Invite Codes

One of the nicer features for room owners: you can set a custom invite code to make your URL memorable and on-brand. Instead of:
tavrn.app/invite/k9x2mq
You could have:
tavrn.app/invite/the-cozy-corner
Custom codes are first-come, first-served, if someone else already has that code, you’ll need a different one.
A custom invite code is great for sharing on social media, embedding in a bio, or including in content. It’s much easier to type or remember than a random string.

When someone clicks your invite link, they see a preview before joining:
  • Room name and icon
  • Room description
  • Approximate member count (online and total)
  • A Join Room button
This is your first impression, it’s worth having a good room icon and description in place before you start sharing invites.

Managing Active Invites

In Room Settings → Invites, you can see all active invite links with:
  • How many times each has been used
  • When they expire
  • Who created them (useful in multi-admin rooms)
You can revoke any invite link from this list. Revoking makes the link immediately inactive, anyone who clicks it after revocation will get an error.
Revoking an invite doesn’t affect anyone who already joined using it. It only prevents new joins.

Sharing Invites

You can share your Tavrn room invite pretty much anywhere:
  • Directly via DM, Send the link to friends on Tavrn
  • Other platforms, Share in Discord, Reddit, a group chat, Twitter, wherever your community is
  • Your Tavrn profile, Put the link in your bio’s social links section
  • Email or SMS, Works for inviting friends who aren’t on Tavrn yet

When you paste a Tavrn room invite link into any Tavrn chat, it automatically renders as a rich room invite card, showing the room name, icon, and a “Join Room” button. This makes sharing rooms in chat really smooth.

Limiting Who Can Create Invites

By default, only Owners and Admins can create invite links. If you want to be the only one controlling who joins (common in private, curated rooms), you can restrict invite creation to Admins only in Room Settings → Permissions.

Frequently Asked Questions

It just stops working. Anyone who clicks an expired invite gets a message that the link is no longer valid.
If you create a link and share it, yes, the recipient can share it further. If you want to control this, use short-duration or limited-use links, and don’t share your permanent link widely.
