Tavrn notifies you when things happen that matter to you. Here’s how to tune that to the right level, not so quiet that you miss things, not so loud that it’s noise.Where to Find Notification Settings

Tavrn sends notifications for several types of events:💬 Direct Messages
When someone sends you a new DM.
👤 Friend Requests
When someone sends you a friend request.

When someone accepts your friend request.

When someone @mentions you in a room channel.

Important announcements or account-related notices from Tavrn.
The Two Notification Toggles
The Notifications settings tab has two main controls:Push Notifications
Receive notifications when you’re not actively using Tavrn, in your browser or on your device. This is the main toggle for being pinged about incoming DMs, friend requests, and mentions.Email Summaries (Digest)
Get a digest of missed activity sent to your email. When enabled, you can choose:- Daily or Weekly frequency
- What to include: unread DMs, room mentions & pings, friend requests & activity
In-App Notifications
The bell icon (🔔) in the sidebar is your notification center. A red dot means you have unread notifications. Click it to open the notifications panel where you’ll see:- All recent notifications
- Who they’re from (with a link to their profile)
- What they’re about
- When they arrived
Push Notifications
Tavrn supports push notifications to your browser or device via OneSignal. These let you know about activity even when you don’t have Tavrn open. Enabling push notifications:- The first time you use Tavrn, your browser will ask if you want to allow notifications, click Allow
- If you blocked it, you can re-enable from your browser settings (click the 🔒 lock icon in your address bar → Notifications → Allow)
- You’re logged into Tavrn but the tab isn’t active
- You have Tavrn open in the background
- On mobile, when you’ve added Tavrn to your home screen
Notification Badges
Unread notification counts show as badges:- On the bell icon in the sidebar
- In the browser tab title (e.g.,
(3) Tavrn) - On the app icon if installed to home screen on mobile
Common Notification Setups
- Real-time everything
- Real-time + weekly recap
- Email-only, no interruptions
- Push notifications: Enabled
- Email summaries: Off
- Perfect for: active community members, room admins/mods who need to stay on top of things
Notification Privacy
Notifications on Tavrn show your activity to you, not to others. Nobody can see your notification settings or know whether you’ve read their message based on your notification configuration.Frequently Asked Questions

Check your browser’s permission settings for Tavrn, notifications need to be “Allowed” at the browser level. Click the 🔒 lock in your address bar and confirm notifications are set to Allow. Also verify Push Notifications is toggled on in Settings → Notifications.

Toggle off Push Notifications in Settings → Notifications to stop real-time pings. Switch to email summaries if you still want a periodic roundup.

If you’ve added Tavrn to your home screen (as a PWA) and have notifications enabled, yes, you can receive lock screen notifications on mobile. This depends on your device and browser’s support for web push.
