Managing Your Friends List

You’ve got the basics down. This article goes deeper into the friends system, managing requests, reading mutual connections, and keeping things organized.

Your Friends List at a Glance

Open Friends in the sidebar to see everyone you’re connected with. The list is sorted by status:
  1. 🟢 Online friends at the top
  2. 🟡 Away/Idle friends next
  3. 🔴 Busy friends after that
  4. Offline friends at the bottom
Each entry shows their avatar, display name, and current status (including custom status message if they’ve set one).

Pending Requests Tab

The Pending tab in the Friends section shows two things: Incoming requests, People who have sent you a friend request. From here you can Accept or Decline. Outgoing requests, Requests you have sent that haven’t been responded to yet. You’ll see them here until the other person accepts or declines.
If you decline someone’s request, they won’t receive a notification. From their perspective, the request is just still pending. They can’t tell whether you declined or just haven’t seen it yet.

Mutual Friends

When you view someone’s profile, Tavrn shows you the friends you have in common. This is useful for:
  • Understanding how someone found you
  • Getting a quick read on who they are from who you both know
  • Finding new people to add through shared connections
Mutual friends are visible to both parties, it’s not hidden information.

Mutual Rooms

Similarly, viewing a profile shows which rooms you’re both in. This is handy context before sending a DM to someone, you can see right away where you’ve overlapped.

Removing a Friend

Friendships sometimes run their course. To remove someone:
  1. Open the Friends section
  2. Find their name (or open their profile)
  3. Click ⋯ more optionsRemove Friend
No notification is sent to them. Your DM conversation history stays intact, you just won’t be friends anymore.

Who Can Send You Friend Requests?

This is controlled in Settings → Privacy & Safety & Safety → Friend Requests:
  • Everyone, Anyone on Tavrn can send you a request
  • Friends, Only friends of your existing friends (people you have in common)
  • Nobody, No one can send you new requests
Locking it to “nobody” is useful if you’re a creator or public figure who’d rather have people DM you through a room or other channel.

Can Friends See My Activity?

Friends can see your online status and custom status message, unless you’ve restricted those in your privacy settings. They can also see your full profile (unless it’s locked to “private”). They cannot see:
  • Who else you’re friends with (unless your friend list is set to public)
  • What DMs you’re in
  • What you’re typing

Friend Count Visibility

Your friend list visibility is a separate privacy setting:
  • Public, Anyone can see your friends list
  • Friends, Only your friends can see who else you’re friends with
  • Private, Your friends list is hidden from everyone
Set this in Settings → Privacy & Safety & Safety → Friend List Visibility.
