Managing Your Cocoa Subscription

Everything you need to know about keeping tabs on your Cocoa membership and making changes to it.

Finding Your Subscription Settings

Go to Settings → Cocoa (or Settings → Subscription) to see your current subscription status and available actions.

Your Subscription Status

Your subscription can be in one of several states:
StatusMeaning
ActiveEverything’s good. You have Cocoa.
TrialingYou’re in a free trial period before first billing.
Past DueA recent payment failed. Tavrn is retrying, your perks remain for now.
CanceledYou’ve canceled, but your perks are active until the billing period ends.
ExpiredSubscription ended. Perks are no longer active.
Paused(If available) Subscription temporarily paused.

Changing Your Plan

Want to switch from monthly to yearly (or vice versa)?

Go to Settings → Cocoa

Open your subscription settings.

Click 'Change Plan'

Select your desired billing cycle.

Confirm the change

The switch takes effect at your next billing date, and any remaining time on your current plan is prorated.
Switching from monthly to yearly? You’re immediately credited for the remaining days in your current billing cycle, so you’re never double-charged.

Canceling Cocoa

Canceling is straightforward and available anytime, no hoops to jump through:
  1. Settings → Cocoa → Cancel Subscription
  2. Confirm the cancellation
  3. You keep all perks until the end of your current billing period
After that, your account returns to the standard free experience. Your data and history are preserved, you just lose the premium perks.
“Cancel at period end” means you won’t be charged again, but you also won’t be refunded for the time remaining. If you have 15 days left on a monthly plan, you keep Cocoa for those 15 days.

What Happens When Cocoa Expires

When your subscription lapses (expired, canceled at end of period, or payment failure):
  • Animated avatar reverts to the first frame of your GIF (static image)
  • Cocoa badge disappears from your profile
  • File upload limits return to standard
  • Custom status goes back to basic text-only
  • Profile themes revert to standard options
Your messages, rooms, friends, and all core features are completely unaffected. Nothing is lost, just the cosmetic/quality upgrades.

Resubscribing

Change your mind? You can resubscribe anytime:
  1. Settings → Cocoa → Subscribe (or the equivalent button)
  2. Choose your plan
  3. Your perks restore immediately upon payment
If you previously had an animated avatar or Cocoa-exclusive theme, those settings are remembered, they’ll re-activate when you resubscribe (as long as the files are still there).

Payment Method Updates

If your card expires or you get a new one:
  1. Settings → Cocoa → Update Payment Method
  2. Enter your new card details via Stripe
  3. Future billing will use the new card
If a payment fails before you update it, you’ll receive an email reminder. Updating your payment method during the retry window will prevent your subscription from lapsing.

Billing History

You can view all past billing events, charges, gift transactions, refunds, in Settings → Cocoa → Billing History. Each entry shows:
  • Date
  • Amount
  • Plan type
  • Status (paid, failed, refunded)

Frequently Asked Questions

First, check your subscription status in Settings, there can sometimes be a brief delay after payment. If it still shows no subscription after a few minutes, contact Tavrn support with your transaction details.
Gifted time and a paid subscription don’t overlap. If you already have a subscription and receive a gift, the gifted time stacks onto the end of your current subscription period.
Subscriptions are tied to the account that purchased them and can’t be transferred. You can gift Cocoa to another account, but your personal subscription stays on your account.
As long as your billing period hasn’t ended yet, your perks are still active. You can resubscribe at any time, just go through the subscribe flow again and your new subscription starts immediately.
