Privacy Settings Overview
Tavrn gives you real control over your privacy. These aren’t checkbox-theater settings that don’t do anything, they actually determine who sees what.
Find them all at Settings → Privacy & Safety.
The Full List of Privacy Controls
👤 Profile Visibility
Controls who can view your profile details (bio, location, etc.).
| Option | Who can see your profile |
|---|
| Everyone | Everyone on Tavrn |
| Friends Only | Only people on your friends list |
| Only Me | Nobody else (just your name and avatar are visible) |
Even on “Private,” your display name and avatar are visible in rooms you’re in, people can still identify you in shared spaces. What’s hidden is the details: bio, social links, pronouns, etc.
👥 Friend List Visibility
Controls whether other people can see your friends list.
| Option | Who can see who you’re friends with |
|---|
| Everyone | Everyone |
| Friends Only | Only your friends |
| Only Me | Nobody |
🟢 Presence / Online Status Visibility
Controls who can see your online status dot (online, away, busy, offline).
| Option | Who sees your status |
|---|
| Everyone | All Tavrn users |
| Friends | Only your friends |
| Nobody | You always appear offline to everyone |
“Nobody” makes you appear fully offline to everyone, including close friends. If you want to be invisible to strangers but visible to friends, use “Friends.”
💬 Direct Messages
Controls who can send you DMs.
| Option | Who can message you |
|---|
| Everyone | Any Tavrn user |
| Friends | Only people on your friends list |
| Nobody | No one can DM you |
🤝 Friend Requests
Controls who can send you friend requests.
| Option | Who can add you |
|---|
| Everyone | Any Tavrn user |
| Friends of Friends | Only people who share a mutual friend with you |
| Nobody | No new friend requests at all |
🔍 Search Visibility
Controls whether you show up in Tavrn’s user search.
| Option | Who can find you by searching |
|---|
| Everyone | Any Tavrn user searching by username |
| Friends | Only existing friends |
| Nobody | You don’t appear in search results at all |
Setting search visibility to “Nobody” means people who don’t already know you can’t find you. This is a strong privacy measure, but it also means people legitimately trying to reconnect with you won’t be able to find you through search.

These Settings Don’t Affect Room Participation
Your privacy settings control your personal visibility, profile, status, DMs, friend requests. They don’t affect your presence in rooms you’ve joined. People in a shared room will still see your messages and that you’re a member, regardless of privacy settings.
If you want to be invisible in a room, you’d need to leave it.
