Blocking Someone

Sometimes people make online spaces worse for you. Blocking is there for exactly those moments, here’s how it works and when to use it.

What Blocking Does

When you block someone on Tavrn:

No more messages from them

They can’t send you direct messages. Any attempt to DM you is blocked.

No more friend requests

They can’t send you friend requests, current or future.

Your presence is hidden from them

They can’t see your online status.

Content separation

Their activity is hidden from your view where possible.
Blocking is one-sided, you block them, it affects what they can do with you. They might not even know you’ve blocked them (they won’t receive a notification).

How to Block Someone

  1. Open the person’s profile (click their avatar/name anywhere)
  2. Click the ⋯ more options menu
  3. Select Block User
  4. Confirm

Removing a Friend vs. Blocking

These are two different levels of action:
Remove FriendBlock
Can still message you✅ Yes (if your DM settings allow it)❌ No
Can see your statusDepends on settings❌ No
Can send you friend requests✅ Yes❌ No
Notification sent❌ No❌ No
Reversible✅ Easy✅ Yes, via your block list
Use Remove Friend when you’ve grown apart or just want to clean up your list.
Use Block when someone is actively causing you distress or you want zero contact.

What Happens in Shared Rooms

If you’re both in the same Tavrn room (community), blocking doesn’t remove either of you from the room. However:
  • Their messages will be hidden from your view in shared channels
  • You won’t be able to see each other’s presence in the member list
  • Interaction is minimized
Blocking isn’t a substitute for room moderation. If someone is violating room rules, report them so admins and Tavrn staff can take action beyond just your personal block.

Unblocking Someone

Unblocking removes all the restrictions. The person can DM you again, send friend requests, and see your status (depending on your privacy settings). To unblock someone, find them anywhere in the app (a shared room, a search result, or a DM thread), open their profile, and select Unblock from the options menu.
Unblocking doesn’t automatically restore a friendship. If you were friends before and removed them as part of the block, you’d need to send a new friend request.

Blocking vs. Reporting

Block is a personal action that protects your experience.
Report is a community action that flags behavior for Tavrn to review.
If someone is harassing you, do both, block them for your immediate peace of mind, and report them so the Tavrn team can address the behavior for everyone.
